About the Trust

Recent events have given us the time to reflect on how lucky we are to live in a safe country and to think about how we can support one another during a difficult time in our history, in particular the people who live on our beautiful island, Waiheke.

Waiheke Spirit Children’s Charitable Trust was established to support families with tuition for after school programs, sports, field trips, international exchange programs and special courses. The Trust, proudly managed by Perpetual Guardian Foundation, will help children on the island who do not have the means required to learn to swim, dance, to become a Sea Scout, play an instrument and many more important life skills so they can reach their full potential and fulfill their dreams.

The Spirit of Waiheke Cottage

The Cottage will be a very special place for Waiheke children and their parents located on the shores of Surfdale beach on Waiheke Island. It will be used as a work/meeting space for the trust, hosting community events, a weekly Parent/Child Program, workshops, Bluebell Summer Camp, guest speakers for parents/high school age children and fostering intergenerational connections with the future neighboring retirement facility.

About the book – The Spirit of Waiheke: Ode to an Island

A group of Waiheke Islanders gathered together and came up with the idea of a coffee table book. This became The Spirit of Waiheke, which celebrates what it is to live on and visit this unique motu. Profits from the book will go to The Waiheke Spirit Children’s Trust to support children’s programmes and events on Waiheke Island.

WHAT MAKES WAIHEKE ISLAND SO SPECIAL?

We asked local artists, musicians, winemakers, chefs, restaurateurs, historians, kaumātua and more why they are so proud to call this unique island in Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf home.

What results is a loving homage to the island by well-known residents, including John Hawkesby, Andrew Glenn, Dr Selina Tusitala Marsh, Denis O’Connor, Graeme Revell, Amanda Linnell, Clare Dunleavy and Lady Jennie Fenwick, with more than 130 stunning images from one of New Zealand’s leading photographers, Waiheke local Peter Rees, that capture the island’s spirit and recipes from restaurateurs and locals.
